So today I gave in to my craving for a fast food burger and went to Burger King for lunch. I ordered a Whopper, Jr. and medium french fries. I finished the french fries on the short drive to my house, where I downed the hamburger in about 2 minutes. The meal was all I that I had dreamed of, meeting every expectation. Hot, greasy fries...the pickle, onion, and ketchup...mmmm. It has been years since I ate a Whopper, and it was a sweet reunion. Earlier this morning, to lessen my guilt, I searched every fast food chain's website to determine, not the "healthiest," but the "least-bad-for-you" burger. Unfortunately I discovered that size matters. I really wanted a huge Whopper with all the trimmings, but settled for the Junior version to prevent even the slightest addition to my already ample thighs.
It is such a cliche for the pregnant woman who indulges her every impulse for calorie-dense junk food -- I have actually had several women tell me that I should "eat it up" and give in to every damnable craving for these things. I simply cannot agree. While I do need extra calories to produce a healthy child, what I need even more is nutrition. Not just fat and sugar. It is a shame that burgers and fries cannot come close to equalling the nutritional content of, say, a turkey wrap stuffed with veggies. What is even more unfortunate is that my cravings usually do not include vegetables and tofu, if you know what I mean. Here you have the battle of the mind versus the will. If only I had an insatiable lust for legumes!
To all my female friends and family who have experienced the joys and pains of pregnancy, what were some of your cravings? I would love to know. Post comments, if you will

Our Big News
Yes, it is true. I am officially with child! Today I am 10 weeks pregnant, and I am feeling pretty good. I had a little bit of nausea the first few weeks, but lately, I have felt great, with the exception of a little fatigue. My belly is just beginning to expand, and it feels really weird. Justin and I told our parents a few weeks ago when they all came for a visit. They are all thrilled, of course. At about week 8, we went in for our first ultrasound. It was so amazing I actually cried. We could see its tiny heart beating. It was only about and inch in length. Our due date has been set for January 7, so it is possible that would could have a Christmas or New Year's baby. This Sunday we are planning to tell our friends at church. Apparently some of the women are already suspicious because of my little "bump" that is protruding. Oh well. We were going to try and keep it a secret until the end of the first trimester, but it looks as if that is not going to work. I plan on using the blog to keep everyone up to date with the pregnancy and birth. Justin and I are so excited, nervous, overwhelmed, etc. Please pray for us. Pray for a healthy child, a healthy delivery, and no complications. Pray for my doctor, Elizabeth Emig, that God would give her wisdom, and that she wouldn't be on vacation when I deliver!
We truly are blessed, and hope that we can see our faraway friends and family soon to share in our joy. Keep checking for more updates each week.
Peace.

The Beginning
"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth..." -- Genesis 1:1
In no way do I intend to aim for such a lofty goal as I begin a discourse on life (in general and my own), but I do intend to create something. What I mean is that, as a creature, it will by no means come close to the workings of the Creator, but nonetheless, my thoughts reveal the nature of a being as created by God.
The title I have chosen, "Little Daily Graces" signifies many things. First, it represents those beautiful things in life which have been bestowed unto me, or my family, by God. By "God" I mean Jehovah, Elohim, Jesus Christ -- in short, the God of the Bible. These beautiful things may be things that are wonderful and celebrated, or simple and mundane, or hard and burdensome. Yes, I do intend to say that even the "bad" things that God sends into our lives are beautiful, and full of grace, even as much as the good things. Without the bad, we would not have an appreciation or understanding of what "good" really means. These sufferings and difficulties are often given to us to teach us, and if you believe in the sovereign love of God, they are for our good as well. I realize that this belief is not popular, even among evangelical Christians, but as I have read and studied and experienced God, I have found no other way to believe. After all, if God truly is God, then he is in complete control. I will have more to say about these things later.
Secondly, "Little Daily Graces" refers to any newsworthy happenings in the lives of the Littles, which right now, consists of me and my husband Justin. I have trouble eloquently describing just how much I love my husband. He is truly my "other half." Next to salvation, he is the greatest blessing that God has given me. We have been married a little over three years now, and it has been a joyful journey for both of us. Sure, we have our moments, but in light of our love for one another, they are insignificant.
Hopefully I have given you a small glimpse into the picture of my life. I welcome any friendly discussion or helpful comments on the subjects that I mention. I only ask that they be educated and constructive.
To all who read, may you be ever more aware of the little daily graces that God sends your way.
Sincerely,
Ashley Davis Little
